Shock play: A play about the life of former porn actress Annabel Chong, who reportedly had sex with 251 men over 10 hours in 1995, opens in her native Singapore. Called simply 251, the play is likely to cause indignation on the socially conservative island.

FRIDAY 6 APRIL
Pet protection: Britain's new animal welfare act comes into force, strengthening the law on cruelty. It is the most important piece of legislation on animal welfare for nearly a century, according to Animal Health Minister Ben Bradshaw.

Climate update: After finding in February that global warming is "very likely" to have been human-induced, UN experts (the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change or IPCC) reveal their latest report. The themes are "impacts, adaptability and vulnerability".

Nerd in space: Billionaire software engineer and former Microsoft guru Charles Simonyi is due to become the latest space tourist. He and two Russian cosmonauts are travelling aboard a Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station. "I might be the first nerd in space," Mr Simonyi said earlier.
