EAST AFRICA QUAKE FELT IN NAIROBI !
A powerful earthquake has hit northern Tanzania, with aftershocks felt as far away as the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The quake hit with a magnitude of 6.1, about 167km (104 miles) from the northern Tanzanian town of Arusha.
Some high-rise buildings in Nairobi, about 240km away, are reported to have shaken gently for several minutes.
The quake is the latest in a series to hit the East African region in the past several days.
East Africa's Great Rift Valley runs along a geological fault line, but has largely escaped major quakes in recent years.
