KENYA PROBES UGANDA ROCKET DEATHS !
The disarmament programme is targeting thousands of weapons. Kenya is investigating claims that scores of people were killed by rockets fired by the Ugandan army pursuing cattle rustlers within its territory.
Ugandan soldiers are engaged in a disarmament operation in the east where cattle rustling is rampant.
Kenya's rift valley commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan said security forces are combing the area for evidence.
UPDF soldiers began disarming villagers in Karamoja last week to stem the influx of arms and livestock theft.
Media reports in Kenya say the Ugandan soldiers were pursing Karamoja rustlers who had fled into the country to evade arrest.
"We know that Ugandans are engaged in an operation but we are not aware that some Kenyans have been killed following the operations," Mr Hassan told the BBC News website.
Some 66 children were killed during a similar operation by the Ugandan army last March, according a report by UK charity Save the Children.
But the army denied the claims saying only adults were killed during the raids then.
